Day 2: Arashiyama and the Bamboo Grove
Head west to Arashiyama for one of Japan's most dramatic natural landscapes, paired with serene riverside temples and excellent street food.
• Early Morning: Walk the Sagano Bamboo Grove at sunrise for golden misty light and zero crowds
• Morning: Explore Tenryuji Zen garden, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a stunning pond garden
• Midday: Cross Togetsukyo Bridge and rent a rowboat on the Oi River
• Lunch: Tofu cuisine at Shoraian, a riverside restaurant built over the water
• Afternoon: Monkey Park Iwatayama for panoramic city views and Japanese macaques
• Evening: Return to central Kyoto for ramen at Menya Inoichi Hanare
