Day 3: Fushimi Inari and Nishiki Market

Spend your final day at Kyoto's most iconic shrine and then dive into the city's legendary food market before heading home.

• Early Morning: Hike the Fushimi Inari Taisha trail at dawn — thousands of vermillion gates up a forested mountain

• Mid-Morning: Descend to the base and try kitsune udon at Nisshin Udon near the shrine

• Late Morning: Browse Nishiki Market (Kyoto's Kitchen) for tsukemono pickles, wagashi sweets, and grilled skewers

• Afternoon: Visit Nijo Castle's opulent Ninomaru Palace and nightingale floors

• Late Afternoon: Relax at a traditional onsen bathhouse in Fushimi ward

• Farewell Dinner: Kaiseki tasting menu at one of Kyoto's Michelin-starred neighborhood restaurants

Tip: The full Fushimi Inari hike to the summit and back takes 2 to 3 hours. Even a 30-minute walk through the lower gates is stunning if time is short.
